The Department of Education has extended "the pause on federal student loan payments and collections and keep the interest rate at 0%." Federal student loan payments have been suspended since March, an extension had previously been drafted in December's stimulus package but was ultimately cut.

"Too many Americans are struggling to pay for basic necessities and to provide for their families. They should not be forced to choose between paying their student loans and putting food on the table," so the statement by the White House.

President Trump unexpectedly signed the $900 billion Covid relief package into law on Sunday, averting a federal government shutdown. The bill extends unemployment benefits for millions and grants a one-time stimulus check of $600 for each eligible individual instead of the $2000 he initially demanded by Trump.

United States President Donald Trump has tweeted that he has "instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business,"

The cabinet of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s agreed on Friday to cut VAT from 19% to 16% for all goods from July 1 until December 31 and give parents a cash handout of €300 per child as part of its €130 billion stimulus package.

Affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, Germany's economy is expected to shrink by 6.3% this year, its worst recession since World War Two.
