Eddie Van Halen, revered guitarist and co-founder of rock band Van Halen, has died of cancer

Eddie Van Halen, virtuoso guitarist and co-founder of the popular rock band Van Halen, has died Tuesday at the age of 65. The musician had been undergoing treatment for throat cancer.

Celebrity news website TMZ, which first broke the news of his death, said Van Halen died at St Johns Hospital in Santa Monica on Tuesday surrounded by his family.

Eddie's son, Wolfgang, wrote on Twitter: "I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning."

Jim Morrison's Paris Journal is up for auction in Beverly Hills this June. The journal, which he kept in Paris until his death in 1971, contains handwritten poems and reflections of the musician. Its value is set between $80,000 and $100,000.

Little Richard (87) died Saturday at his Tenessee home, after being sick for two months. His son, Danny Jones Penniman, confirmed the death to the Rolling Stone magazine, yet the cause of it is unknown.

Although he never hit the top 10 again after 1958 songs like “Tutti Frutti,” “Long Tall Sally,” “Good Golly, Miss Molly” and “Lucille,” are at the core of Rock and Roll.
