The Berlin police draw new hope in the theft of the 100kg "Big Maple Leaf" gold coin from the Bode Museum in 2017. During searches of jewelers in Berlin-Neukölln, the police arrested several people and seized counterfeit coins and amounts of money.
The police hoped that the measure would enable them to find pieces of the gold coin.
Some of the alleged perpetrators have already been legally convicted.
On Saturday evening, a cleaner in a Hamburg Sparkasse branch informed the private security service after noticing something inexplicable.
Alarmed police officers were able to secure an industrial drill in the basement of the bank, with which the unknown perpetrators had apparently tried to drill open the safe.
There are currently no references to the perpetrators.

A former employee of a money transportation company has given inside information about trip plans and expected amounts of money to his three accomplices. They then took advantage of an unobserved moment in a parking garage on February 28 of this year and captured a sum of €5,500.
During the investigation, the suspects falsely accused one of the robbed drivers to be an accomplice.
Two guys had tried to rob a storehouse of a mobile phone provider near the Germany city of Kiel in 2019 with the aim to loot products amounting to €80,000. One of the guys who planned the robbery was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. During the robbery, they had attacked another security guard, tied him up and injured his head. Two witnesses disturbed the coup so that they finally got 80 € of the wallet of security guard only. The second guy got a probationary sentence.
In December 2019 an off duty security guard stopped a bank robbery at a post office in Görlitz (Saxony). The offender was sentenced to 40 months in prison, saying that he had no intention of harming any people in the bank and just wanted to intimidate them.
