The Berlinale organizers announced the decision to have its upcoming film festival online. Originally set for February 11-21, 2021, the festival is pushing back the dates for its program to from March 1st to 5th.
The winners and a selection of the films from the March festival will then be presented in Berlin theatres in the summer.
"As an answer to the times in which we are living, we have decided to split our offer into two distinct, yet related events and in this way fulfil the mission of the Berlinale," said artistic director Carlo Chatrian in a press release.
Along with various businesses and schools, is already confirmed that Berlin's cultural institutions are to remain closed until the middle of January, and Lederer said in a Twitter video message that he expected the lockdown for cinemas to "go on a little longer."

The Berlin International Film Festival, Berlinale, announced that the performance awards would be defined in a gender-neutral way. Instead of the awards for the Best Actor and the Best Actress, a "Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance" and a "Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance" shall each be awarded on a gender-neutral basis.
The organisers also announced the 2021 edition is planned to happen from February 11 to February 21 as a physical festival "in accordance with the then-applicable rules and regulations, thus ensuring the greatest possible security for all guests."

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and NBC announced next year’s Golden Globes' ceremony would happen on February 28, 2021, the date recently vacated by the Oscars. The event will have Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts.
The organisers also stated in their press release: "To accommodate both domestic and international film and television productions, the HFPA will provide further guidance around eligibility, voting period and revised nominations announcement timing in the coming weeks.".

Viggo Mortensen is set to receive the prestigious Donostia Award at the 68th San Sebastián International Film Festival in recognition for his acting career. Mortensen is a three-time Oscar nominee and has starred in movies such as Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic and the Lord Of The Ring Trilogy. Additionally, his directorial debut "Falling" will be presented during the Film Festival.

Oscars 2021 has been postponed by two months, from February 28 to April 25.
The organisers of The Academy Awards also announced the eligibility window would be extended until the end of February, as the Covid-19 pandemic halted work on several films due to be released by the end of the year.
This is only the third time the Oscars have been delayed -- in 1938, due to the LA flooding; in 1968 after the assassination of Dr Martin Luther King Js; and in 1981 after the attempted assassination of President Ronald Regan.
The Academy also shared that nominations will be announced on March 15.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards won't take place in June and has been postponed indefinitely. MTV is currently looking to move the event to December. According to Screenrant, "the network had been hoping to make that move even before the coronavirus hit."

Tribeca and YouTube have teamed up to present We Are One: A Global Film Festival taking place from May 29 to June 7. The free event will be hosted on YouTube and feature films, documentaries, shorts and others from the top film festivals, including Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Tribeca and Venice. Major film festivals were forced to cancel their events due to Covid-19. We Are One will be ad-free but viewers will be asked to donate to Covid-19 relief funds.
