Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, 31 to 26, advancing to the Super Bowl LV. The reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, celebrated the AFC Championship after a 38 to 24 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Super Bowl LV will happen on Sunday, February 7, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. This will be the first time in Super Bowl history that one of the finalists will be playing in their home stadium.

The Washington Football Team has introduced the first black president in NFL history. jason Wright is a former NFL running back and takes over the position from Bruce Allen as Washington has parted way with him after the team fell behind expecations in the last season.

Jason Wright who is now also the youngest NFL team president stated that "I have always enjoyed building exciting new things and taking on the hard, seemingly intractable challenges that others may not want to tackle".

RedBird Capital Partners has announced its agreement to buy the XFL football league. The league has gone bankrupt before and the deal is still pending bankruptcy court approval.

Following the announcement of the deal the sale auction for the XFL has been cancelled. The acquisition is lead by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who has stated that "the acquisition of the XFL with my talented partners, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale, is an investment for me that’s rooted deeply in two things: My passion for the game and my desire to always take care of the fans".

After years of pressure from both Native American leaders and major retail brands, the Washington Redskins American football team announced it would retire "the Redskins name and logo upon completion of a review." The use of the term "redskin", considered a slur against Native Americans, has long been seen as controversial but it has taken major sponsors such FedEx, Pepsi and Nike to threaten to pull funding for the team to take action.

"Dan Snyder and Coach Rivera are working closely to develop a new name and design approach that will enhance the standing of our proud, tradition rich franchise and inspire sponsors, fans and community for the next 100 years," so the team's statement published on Twitter.

The Ivy League is the first Division I conference to cancel its fall sports season, postponing football and various other sports until at least January of 2021.

"With the information available to us today regarding the continued spread of the virus, we simply do not believe we can create and maintain an environment for the intercollegiate athletic competition that meets our requirements for safety and acceptable levels of risk," so a statement by the Ivy League presidents.
