Lewis Hamilton is on pole position for the Tuscany Grand Prix, in Mugello. Hamilton, the current leader of the Formula 1 championship, finished ahead of Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen took the third place, Alexander Albon the fourth position, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc will start in the fifth position.

After the session, Hamilton said, "This track is phenomenal. It’s a really challenging circuit. I’ve been working so hard in the background to improve on my lines and set up. I finally got the lap I needed."

The Tuscany Grand Prix will be the 1,000th race for the Ferrari Formula 1 team.

Vettel to leave Ferrari at the end of the season

In a joint declaration, the Ferrari F1 team and 4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel have announced that this year is to be Vettel's last with Ferrari: "The team and I have realised that there is no longer a common desire to stay together beyond the end of this season."

The decision is effectively the first move in a chair dance that will determine team driver pairings for 2021, as many driver contracts are set to end in 2020.
