It has been seven days since Australia last recorded a local coronavirus case.

With the last recorded case originating in New South Wales a week ago, the country is on track to open most borders by Christmas.

Comparatively, it has been 224 days since the Northern Territory last had an active local case.

Austria has recorded 9,262 new Covid-19 infections over the past 24 hours, including late reports of new infections from the last few days due to technical problems in the reporting system.

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober appeals to operators and customers of shopping centers to adhere to Covid-19 regulations, after pictures of people crowded together in shopping centers surfaced.

According to the latest Government figures, the UK has become the first country within Europe to pass the bleak mark of 50,000 deaths related to the coronavirus.

Passing this mark, the UK joins as the 5th member of the 'over 50,000' club with the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico.

Since the coronavirus began, there have been over 1.2 million confirmed cases within the UK and more than 185,000 hospital admissions.

Reacting to the news, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said "we are not out of the woods". "Every death is a tragedy," he added, "I do think we have got now to a different phase in the way that we treat it."

Coronavirus passes 50 million cases worldwide

There have been more than 50 million cases of Coronavirus worldwide since the start of the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University.

This has led to 1.2 million fatalities globally.

The United States has recorded the most cases of any country, with more than 9.86 million infections reported.

Germany reports almost as many corona patients are again in intensive care units as in spring. According to reports, the situation is even more critical than in April as Germany reports record numbers in new cases. On Saturday, an absolute peak of 23,399 was recorded.

The German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine (DIVI) reported that 2904 Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care.

20,582 Covid-19 cases have been reported in Russia in a single day. This makes an all-time high in single day cases as the country has reported 1,733,440 cases in total.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that "additional measures are being taken" but a broad lockdown is still out of the discussion as it is too "early" for that.

Germany reports almost 20,000 new Covid-19 cases

The Robert Koch Institute reports a new peak in new corona infections: 19,990 cases were added within one day.

According to the RKI management report, the reproduction figure was 0.81 in Germany on Wednesday (previous day: 0.94). The RKI also stated that processing times are increasing as well as the number of samples is still growing.

After the Spanish Health Ministry revised its methodology for recording Covid-19 infections and fatalities the death toll reached 38,118, a jump from Tuesday’s unrevised 36,495.

The total Covid-19 cases now is 1,284,408, from 1,259,366 the day before.

There are now 47.5 million cases of Coronavirus globally. 1.2 million people have died of the virus. America is the country with the highest case count, followed by India, Brazil and Mexico.

With Victoria recording zero cases today, and the rest of the country reporting only cases from returned travellers, Australia has recorded no locally transmitted COVID-19 infections for the first time since the 9th of June 2020.

Health Minister Greg Hunt shared the good news at a press conference today.

Mr Hunt said the country was on track to open its international borders in time for Christmas.

The United States have reported 100,233 Covid-19 cases in a 24-hour-period, setting a global single day record, according to Reuters. India previously set a single day record in September with a total of 97,894 cases.

Poland's Coronavirus cases have tripled in less than a month. The country has exceeded 300,000 cases as of Thursday, with a new highest daily count of 20,156.

14,631 hospital beds are currently occupied by Coronavirus patients and 1203 ventilators are in use.

The FBI and two other federal agencies have warned that the US healthcare system is facing an “increased and imminent” threat of cyberattacks, including data theft and extortion attempts to lock up hospital information systems, and that there is "credible information of an increased and imminent cybercrime threat to US hospitals and healthcare providers."

"We are experiencing the most significant cyber security threat we’ve ever seen in the United States,” so Charles Carmakal, chief technical officer of the cybersecurity firm Mandiant.

Slovakia has started mass testing its entire population for Covid-19, the first country to do so. During a trial phase on the weekend of October 23-25, a total of 140,945 people participated and 5,594 infectious cases were detected, defence ministry spokeswoman Martina Koval Kakascikova said.
