Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued an executive order on Thursday, making the wear of face coverings in public mandatory. The order applies to counties which have at least 20 confirmed Covid-19 cases. Children under the age of 10 and people with some medical conditions are exempt. Masks are also not required while dining out and during certain athletic activities if a distance to others can be maintained.

"We have the ability to keep businesses open and move our economy forward so that Texans can continue to earn a paycheck, but it requires each of us to do our part to protect one another — and that means wearing a face covering in public spaces," so the Governor in a statement.

Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has been ordered by federal judge Renato Borelli to wear a face mask when circulating in public in Brasilia or face a $390 per day fine.

Borelli stated the president "has exposed other people to the contagion of a disease that has caused national commotion,".

The same decision also applies to all employees and contractors of the federal government in Brasilia.

American Airlines bans passenger over refusal to wear mask

A spokesperson for American Airlines has announced that a man was banned from flying with the airline after the person refused to wear a facemask and was kicked off the plane. This has been the first enforcement of the new rule after American Airlines had announced it. The airline stated that the person had ignored requests by the crew, offered a later flight and then later banned after the incident had been reviewed. The ban will be lifted when American Airlines decides to lift the mask requirement alltogether at some point in the future.

United Airlines has announced that passengers without a masks in flight will be asked by the flight attendants to put on a mask. If the passenger does not have one, the attendants will offer them a mask. If a passenger still does not comply the flight attendant will file a report after reaching the destination and the pessenger could be added to a "internal travel restriction list" effectively banning them from flying for an amount of time that has to be determined. The policy comes as United Airlines aims to create an envirement where people are protected as good as possible from Covid-19.

Duisburg: Gay couple discriminated against by security guards

According to the German Covid-19 rules, a supermarket in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia could only be entered with a shopping cart. The exception was that spouses from one household can share a cart.

Despite the indication that homosexuals are also allowed to marry these days, the security guard did not let the couple in with one shopping cart. Even the deputy branch manager who was brought in was unable to influence the security force and obtain an apology. This was the third incident at Lidl for the couple concerned.

Scientists from the Cambridge and Greenwich Universities have stated that their research that focussed on the spread of the Covid-19 suggests that lockdowns alone are not enough to contain the virus from resurging in a second wave. It instead indicates that the widespread use of face masks - even homemade ones - could reduce the transmission rates to a controllable level if enough people wear them.

The World Health Organization has updated its guidelines regarding the usage of facial masks in order to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. According to the guidelines in "settings where a physical distancing cannot be achieved " people should wear fabric masks with three layers, while people over the age of 60 and people with underlying health conditions should wear medical-grade masks.

The actor has posted on Facebook that he and his wife started delivering 110.000 face masks to hospitals in need across rural Texas. In the post, he stated that the luxury carmaker Lincoln had donated them.

Colorado police arrests person who started shooting after told to wear a mask

The Colorado police have arrested a person on suspicion of attempted murder. According to the authorities, the person tried to order at a Waffle House in the Denver suburb Aurora and was told by the staff that he needs to wear a mask in order to place an order for takeout. The suspect allegedly returned at a later point and was turned away again, because he did not wear a mask despite having one with him. According to the police he then returned for the third time and shot the victim as it was running from him.

New technologies will substitute store security guards in Germany

With the challenge of controlling the physical distancing rules in German supermarkets, the need for security guards at the doors of local stores has increased. Now, more and more shops are planning on using technologies to regulate the number of persons inside shops. Aldi Süd, Media Markt and Saturn already have announced that they'll make use of people counting systems and virtual "bouncers" in all stores in Germany.

Beginning next Monday in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Uber will require drivers and riders to wear masks through the end of June.

Drivers will also be required to verify that they’re wearing face masks by taking a selfie before accepting a booking. Riders will also be required to sit in the back seat.

After handing out free surgical face masks to each household in February, Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing has stated on Wednesday that the country will hand out 'better' reusable masks to its citizens soon. Masks will be made available in community and resident committee centers as well as vending machines.

Spain makes face masks mandatory for the usage of public transport

Following other countries, the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced that the use of a face mask will be mandatory on public transport. The government itself will hand out 6 million masks at mainly transport locations and distribute another 7 million to local authorities around the country.

Compulsory use of masks throughout Germany

All 16 federal states now already have compulsory masks or will introduce them within the next few days. Most of the federal states will introduce compulsory masks in local public transport from the beginning of next week (27.04). Furthermore, masks must also be worn in shopping malls. However, this is not the case in all federal states.
