During a news conference, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced the 2020 Boston Marathon has been cancelled for the first time in the event's history.
The Boston Athletic Association has determined that the traditional one day running of the 124th Boston marathon will not be feasible this year, given the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event was already postponed from April 20 to Sept. 14.

Spanish prime minister grants La Liga permit to restart in June

After being suspended in March because of the coronavirus the Spanish La Liga has been allowed to continue playing from June on. The league organizers will confirm an exact date for the restart as 11 rounds of games still need to be played in the current season. The president of La Liga Javier Tebas has tweetet that "We are very happy with the decision, it is the result of the great work of clubs, players, coaches".

Cannes Film Festival to announce Selection in June

A spokesperson of the Cannes Film Festival has announced that they will announce "films from the (initial Official) Selection at the beginning of June". The fall film festival is currently ruling out a physical festival but might organize a “redeployment ‘outside the walls’ (of Cannes), in collaboration with fall festivals", including festivals such as Venice, Toronto and New York.

Facebook's AI Residency Program cancelled

Facebook announced the cancellation of the company's AI Residency Program 2020-2021 on Wednesday. The AI Residency Program is a "one-year research training position designed to give you hands-on experience with artificial intelligence research while working in Facebook AI". Al Jerome Pesenti, Facebook's vice president, stated that the decision was made to "put the health and safety of our community first".

Tribeca and YouTube team up for "We Are One" virtual global film festival

Tribeca and YouTube have teamed up to present We Are One: A Global Film Festival taking place from May 29 to June 7. The free event will be hosted on YouTube and feature films, documentaries, shorts and others from the top film festivals, including Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Tribeca and Venice. Major film festivals were forced to cancel their events due to Covid-19. We Are One will be ad-free but viewers will be asked to donate to Covid-19 relief funds.

Epic Games, the video game and software development company behind Fortnite, has announced the cancellation of this year's Fortnite World Cup. On Twitter, they stated that all other Fortnite events and competitions will be held online.
