USA Today baseball insider Bob Nightengale has stated that "at least" one player of the Miami Marlins but possibly more players have left the team hotel during their stay in Atlanta only days before the season began.
He believes that "some guys got careless, at least one guy did for sure, he went out, and came back positive and spread it around" causing the outbreak inside the team where 17 players of the Marlins tested positive. Official statements regarding the outbreak from the Major League Baseball and Miami Marlins are still outstanding.

Fourteen individuals of the Miami Marlins have tested positive for coronavirus, hours before the team's first home game. The Marlins were scheduled to play the Baltimore Orioles as part of a three game series on Monday, 27 July.
Marlins CEO Derek Jeter released a statement, claiming the "health of our players and staff has been and will continue to be our primary focus."
Per the CDC, the Marlins' home state of Florida has the second highest number of cases at 418,844 as of 28 July.
