Justin Trudeau announced Friday that military-style assault weapons will be banned immediately, prohibiting the sale, transport, import and use of around 1,500 different weapon models.

The ban is the result of a mass shooting that took place in Nova Scotia on April 18 and 19, killing at least 22 people.
