Joe Biden hit by sexual assault allegation

Former Vice President Joe Biden faces new allegations of sexual assault. In an interview with podcast host Katie Halper, which aired on Wednesday, Tara Reade says Biden sexually assaulted her, pushing her against a wall and penetrating her with his fingers when she was working in his staff in 1993. When she pulled away, she says, he said he thought she "liked" him.

Reade's allegation line up with allegations by several women who came forward in 2019 to say Biden had kissed or touched them in ways that made them uncomfortable. Biden’s campaign on Friday denied Reade’s allegation. “Women have a right to tell their story, and reporters have an obligation to rigorously vet those claims,” deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said in a statement. “We encourage them to do so, because these accusations are false.”

Trump invokes Defense Production Act, seeks to force General Motors to produce ventilators

After a series of delays and tweets earlier this Friday, Donald Trump issued an order that seeks to force General Motors to produce ventilators for coronavirus patients under the Defence Production Act.

The Defense Production Act gives the president powers to direct domestic industrial production to provide essential materials and goods needed in a national security crisis. Previously Trump has been reluctant to use the act to force businesses to contribute to the coronavirus fight. "But our fight against the virus is too urgent to allow the give-and-take of the contracting process to continue to run its normal course", the President said. General Motors said it could build 10,000 ventilators per month starting in April.

Julian Assange denied bail by London court

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was denied bail on Wednesday after his defense lawers argued a release from Belmarsh Prison in London would mitigate his "high risk" of catching coronavirus.

Assange's lawyer, Edward Fitzgerald, told Westminster Magistrates Court Assange has prior chest and tooth infections and osteoporis, placing him at a higher risk from the virus.

However, Judge Vannessa Baraitser rejected the arguments, arguing that based on Assange's prior conduct, there are "substantial grounds" to believe that if released he would not return to face extradition hearing. "As matters stand today, this global pandemic does not, as of itself, yet provide grounds for Mr Assange’s release," she said.
