Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain, has announced a four-stage plan to release the Spanish lockdown that began on the 14th March.
Phase one will begin on the 11th May and will entail the limited opening of small shops, hotels, restaurants, and places of worship, with strict social distancing conditions.
Each phase will last a maximum of two weeks, with the move to the next stage being reviewed on a weekly basis. Spain is expected to reach its new normality by mid to late June.
No professional sport will be occurring in France until September. The 2019-2020 seasons for all domestic professional sports leagues, including professional soccer in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, will not be completed either in public or behind closed doors.
The Tour de France had been rescheduled by the International Cycling Union for August 29th to September 20th, 2020. The statement leaves a degree of uncertainty about the status of the Tour de France, which was not specifically mentioned by Edouard Philippe in ruling out sport before the start of September.
