White House briefs Republicans on Russian bounties on US soldiers, Democrats left out

Seven House Republicans have been briefed by White House officials on the ongoing case of alleged Russian bounties for killing soldiers of the United States by Afghani militants. While House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have both demanded to be brief on the matter as the investigations are still ongoing and it is yet unclear if Vice President Pence and President Trump have known of the Russian activities, the Democrats have been left out of the briefing by White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, and national security adviser Robert O'Brien.

U.S. GDP falls by 4.8 percent in first quarter

America's GDP – gross domestic product – shrank at a 4.8 percent annual rate in the first quarter of 2020, making it the biggest contraction since the Great Recession. As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, experts believe that the decline will continue into the second quarter of 2020.

Kevin Hassett, White House economic adviser, estimates GDP could go down by 20 to 30 percent, calling it "the biggest shock since the Great Depression".

Apple announces donation of 2 million masks

In order to help fight the coronavirus the company has announced that it'll donate "millions of masks for health professionals in the US and Europe", CEO Tim Cook announced in a tweet. Vice President Mike Pence also confirmed the donation during a White House briefing and specified the number of donated masks to the US as 2 million.

German Health Ministry confirmed: Trump tried to buy German research company to make potential Covid-19 vaccine US exclusive

Following a meeting at the White House with representatives from pharmaceutical companies, Donald Trump, Mike Pence and other members of the US's coronavirus task force to discuss the development of a vaccine against Covid-19, Donald Trump tried to buy the German research company CureVac. Trump had intended to make the vaccine "for the U.S. only", according to the German newspaper "Die Welt". The German Health Ministry confirmed that the reporting from "Die Welt" was accurate and Germany itself is now offering financial incentives for the company in order to stay in Germany.

White House physician announces that Donald Trump has been tested negative for Covid-19

Several days after meeting a delegation from Brazil, of whom multiple members have been tested positive for the coronavirus, Donald Trump underwent a test himself. The White House physician has now announced that the President's test result is negative.

Trump administration investigates covering the costs for corona treatments of uninsured patients

The US has a program in place that enables the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to potentially reimburse hospitals and other health providers for treating uninsured patients. The reimbursement rates are set at around 110% of the Medicare rates. Currently, the Centers are evaluating if the program should be used for the treatment of uninsured corona patients.
