Ongoing Covid-19 Measures Needed until Adult Population are Vaccinated, UK Doctor Suggests

Dr Susan Hopkins, the Public Health England's leading Covid-19 strategists told Sky News that she thinks "that once we get to a very low level of community [transmission], we will need to have ongoing measures in place until the adult population are vaccinated."

"What those measures are, we will have to watch and see, but I think it is really important that we keep the rates as low as possible for as long as possible this year," Hopkins added.

Both the United Kingdom and France have recorded their highest daily number of Coronavirus cases on Thursday. France reported 16,096 cases and the UK 6,632 new cases.

“The signals are clear. Positivity rates are rising across all age groups and we’re continuing to see spikes in rates of admission to hospital and critical care,” Yvonne Doyle, medical director of Public Health England, said and that the new surge of infections is a “stark warning for us all”.

London has been reporting fewer than 24 coronavirus cases per day, decreasing the "R" reproduction rate to 0.4. If this downtrend continues, models of the Public Health England suggests the virus will be "wiped out" in London by June.
