Oriel College, Oxford
In 2015 students at Oxford University had first demanded the removal of the statue of Cecil Rhodes, a leading figure in British imperialism. Now, five years later, hundreds of students and residents have gathered at Oriel College at the University of Oxford, once again, to demand the removal of the statue.
Oxford student and one of the protest's organisers told the Independent that many of their demands had fallen on deaf ears but that students would continue to “object to the institutional practises that are symbolised by objectionable iconography such as that of Cecil Rhodes”.
