The sports journalist and insider Fabrizio Romano has announced that Lionel Messi will stay with the FC Barcelona for the 2021 season as he did not want to get "into a legal dispute".

LaLiga has stated that Lionel Messi will not be released of his contract with the FC Barcelona without paying €700 million as defined in his contract clause.

Messi has stated that he considers his contract the be expired and did not show up for the mandatory Covid-19 test of the FC Barcelona.

According to LaLiga "the contract is currently in force and has a 'termination clause' applicable in the event that Lionel Andrés Messi decides to request the unilateral early termination of the contract, carried out in accordance with article 16 of Royal Decree 1006/1985, of June 26, 1985, which regulates the special labour relationship of professional sportsmen and women".

After a 2:0 victory against Villareal, Real Madrid confirmed its 34th Spanish title at an empty Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

Since LaLiga resumed, after the Covid-19 break, Real has won all 10 of its games to open up a seven-point lead over second-place Barcelona.

La Liga will be exclusive to the FIFA game franchise until 2030, Electronic Arts announced it today. The new 10-year agreement is the longest renewal in the partnership between Electronica Arts and La Liga.

The announcement also includes a commitment to grow fandom and esports participation through LaLiga’s official esports competition, eLaLiga Santander.

The first match for Barcelona after the Corona-19 break started with a gap in the security concept. Despite stricter regulations and ghost games, a fan managed to gain unauthorized access to the stadium and enter the field. Security forces only came in after a short time and led the "streaker" away.

Spain's La Liga will resume on June 11, three months after its suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic, announced the league's president Javier Tebas.

Tebas also informed that the 2020-21 season would start on September 12.

Last Saturday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez gave permission for the country's top two divisions to resume from June 8.

Spanish prime minister grants La Liga permit to restart in June

After being suspended in March because of the coronavirus the Spanish La Liga has been allowed to continue playing from June on. The league organizers will confirm an exact date for the restart as 11 rounds of games still need to be played in the current season. The president of La Liga Javier Tebas has tweetet that "We are very happy with the decision, it is the result of the great work of clubs, players, coaches".
