The month of June had a daily average of 4,190 deaths in Brazil, with Covid-19 being the leading cause of death. The number is the highest ever recorded for a month in Brazil since 1979.

According to Alcides Miranda, a physician and researcher of UFRGS (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul), besides the direct deaths attributed to Covid-19, there are many recorded as 'respiratory complications' or occurring at home, without any confirmed diagnosis.
