British WWII veteran Captain Tom Moore has raised over 29 million pounds for health care workers by walking laps in his garden turns 100 on Thursday. He first set out to walk 100 laps over 10 days and had hoped to raise £1,000. In honour of his birthday, he has received more than 125,000 birthday cards so far, including one from Prince William and Duchess Kate.
Spokespeople from Germany and the United Kingdom said that instead of investing "in technologies of the past" the recovery should be a "green and resilient" one that "leaves no one behind". The German Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Svenja Schulze, said that "Unlike in the fight against the coronavirus, we already know the vaccines for the climate crisis".
After being diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma in January 2019, the four-year-old boy has successfully recovered from the coronavirus. The boy was in the hospital for six days and is now at home with his parents.
After being admitted to a London hospital the prime minister of the United Kingdom has been moved to an intensive care unit as his condition worsens following his infection with the coronavirus.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital for tests with "persistent symptoms" - including a temperature. Johnson tested positive for Coronavirus 10 days ago and has been in self isolation ever since. For the moment, the prime minister will remain in charge of the government, but the foreign secretary is expected to chair a coronavirus meeting on Monday morning.
A team of researchers from the United Kingdom and Germany has discovered fossil traces of a rain forest 90 million years old near the South Pole. The analysis of the findings such as preserved roots, pollen and spores have shown that the world was warmer during that time than previously expected. Professor Ulrich Salzman, a co-author and palaeoecologist at Northumbria University said that “The numerous plant remains indicate that the coast of West Antarctica was, back then, a dense temperate, swampy forest, similar to the forests found in New Zealand today".
The orthopaedic surgeon, Joseph Alsousou, was forced to leave his apartment after the landlady cancelled the contract in fear of getting the coronavirus. The 2020 edition of the Wimbledon tennis tournament is canceled. The tournament was due to be played between 29 June and 12 July and this is the first time, since World War II, the English competition will not take place.
In order to continue the care for the zoo animals, four zookeepers have moved into a house on the zoo grounds for the next three months, while the zoo itself is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Continuous Positive Airway Pressure device has been developed together by engineers from Mercedes Formula One and the University College London as well as clinicians from the college. The approval for using it has already given by the respective authority the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and the first devices have been delivered to the college and three other hospitals inside London. Boris Johnson has tested positive for the Coronavirus. The British Prime Minister revealed the news in a self-filmed video posted on his Twitter account. Johnson said, "I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus."
The billionaire company founder James Dyson has announced that the company managed to design a new ventilator system in 10 days, after receiving an order from the government of the United Kingdom. The company aims to produce 10,000 of the new ventilators for the UK and is planning on donating an additional 5,000 ventilators towards the international fight against the coronavirus by the end of April.
The ExCeL Conference Centre in London's East End is being transformed into a temporary hospital with the capacity for up to 4,000 beds as part of the UK's efforts to fight the Coronavirus outbreak. Named the 'Nightingale Hospital', the halls of the 100,000m² facility — which normally house large exhibitions and trade shows — will initially hold around 500 beds with oxygen and ventilators, with capacity for more spaces and equipment as they become available.

In a televised address to the nation on monday evening, prime minister Boris Johnson informed the public of a lockdown starting monday night. Public spaces will be closed and people will only be allowed to leave their homes for grocery shopping, one form of exercise per day and if travel to work can´t be avoided. The lockdown will last for at least three weeks, after which the government will reexamine the situation.
People wanting to come from Europe will be banned from traveling to the United States for the next 30 days. The ban applies to countries inside the Schengen economic and travel zone. The two exceptions are the United Kingdom and Ireland.
