Arizona House Republicans file bill aiming to punish doctors who perform an abortion with death penalty

The Democratic State Rep. Athena Salman has published a series of tweets shedding light on legislation draft "HB 2650" handed in by multiple Republican State Representatives.

If the legislation would pass, all abortions would be classified as first degree murder and a "class 1 felony" which "is punishable by death or life imprisonment".

Arizona and Wisconsin certified President-elect Joe Biden's narrow victory on Monday. The two states are the latest to reject President Donald Trump's bid to stop states certifying their results, alleging widespread voter fraud without evidence.

"There’s no basis at all for any assertion that there was widespread fraud that would have affected the results," so Josh Kaul, Wisconsin’s Democratic attorney general.

Arizona has certified the results of the US elections after Arizona's Secretary of State Katie Hobbs announced that Biden was ahead of Trump by about 10,500 votes after the recount. Governor Doug Ducey has signed the documents.

Rudy Giuliani has been put in charge of the Trump campaign's legal challenges contesting the outcome of the 2020 election, the New York Times reports. Citing four people familiar with the matter, Giuliani is now responsible for overseeing the lawsuits to throw out ballots and turn around Trump's election loss. President Trump's lawsuits to delay or block the election result were turned aside in cases in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Arizona

Arizona, New Jersey, South Dakota and Montana all passed legislation Tuesday permitting the possession of marijuana by adults, which means 15 states have legalized recreational weed or voted to legalize it.

Judge Emmet Sullivan of the US District Court of the District of Columbia ordered the US Postal Service to immediately sweep facilities for ballots in crucial swing states. The order mandates that facilities must start the process by 3pm ET "to ensure that no ballots have been held up and that any identified ballots are immediately sent out for delivery.

Sweeps must be conducted in various crucial swing states, including Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, Arizona and South Florida.

Arizona is closing a broad range of business again as the state sees a rising number of Covid-19 infections. Among the businesses affected are bars, gyms, theatres and water parks.

"Our expectation is that next week, our numbers will be worse," Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said. "It will take several weeks for the mitigations we are putting in place to take effect."

Apple announced that it would temporarily close a total of six stores in Florida, Arizona, North and South Carolina due to increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases.

Apple told TechCrunch: "Due to current COVID-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible."

As the protests following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer enter its seventh day, at least 40 US cities have imposed overnight curfews. Among those cities are Minneapolis, New York City, Los Angeles and a statewide curfew in Arizona. Washington, DC and at least 23 other cities have activated the National Guard.
