A new round of tests done this week raised the number of Uruguayan national team players and staff members who tested positive for Covid-19 up to 20.
Washington Tabarez, the national team coach tested negative. The whole country's numbers of cases raised abruptly in the last weeks, and the latest numbers pointing to 108 positive cases for one day.

Pep Guardiola has signed a two-year deal that will see him remain as Manchester City manager until the summer of 2023. Guardiola told City's website:"We have achieved a great deal together, scored goals, won games and trophies, and we are all very proud of that success."
Guardiola's current five-year stay is already the longest commitment he has made to a team since becoming a manager in 2008.

Lewis Hamilton clinched a seventh World Championship and became the most successful racing driver ever with a masterful victory in the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday. Hamilton clinched the title with his 94th career win with a trademark wet-weather performance to win from sixth on the grid, one of the best drives of his illustrious career.
Behind Hamilton, a dramatic last-lap saw Sergio Perez overtaken by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for P2, only for Leclerc to overcook it at Turn 12, with Perez retaking second as Vettel made it through on his teammate to claim a first podium of the season.

Racing Point's Lance Stroll beat Red Bull's Max Verstappen by 0.290 seconds and took the pole position for the Turkish Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton, on the verge of his seventh title, could manage only a sixth place.
Stroll's pole came completely out of the blue on a day when his Racing Point team clearly had their car set up just so to work the tyres effectively on a treacherously slippery track in challenging conditions.
Stroll's team-mate Sergio Perez was third ahead of Red Bull's Alexander Albon and Renault's Daniel Ricciardo.

A tweet from the Egyptian FA said that testing results showed "our international player and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah to be infected with coronavirus ... despite not having any symptoms."
Photographs and videos of Salah - in some of the images, without a face mask to protect against the virus - dancing among dozens of people at his brother's wedding, held earlier this week in Cairo, have gone viral on the social media over the past days.
Salah's positive test result comes ahead of Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Saturday against Togo.

Talks are continuing on Thursday between the FA and senior government officials in an attempt to clarify whether existing coronavirus regulations denying Iceland's players and staff entry into the United Kingdom will remain in place. The current restrictions relate to a new coronavirus strain that has spread to humans from mink in Denmark.
"We have asked the Government to consider allowing us to play our final Nations League match at Wembley Stadium, by giving travel exemption to the Icelandic team subject to strict medical protocols," the FA said on its Twitter account.

Chris Nikic wrote sports history in the early hours of German time on Sunday morning. In Florida, the 21-year-old American was the first person with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman.
After two years of training, Nikic completed the 3.86 km swim, 180 km bike ride and a marathon on Saturday in Florida within 16:46:09 hours.

The Spanish Rafael Nadal became the fourth tennis player to record 1,000 ATP Tour wins with victory over fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez at the Paris Masters. Jimmy Connors leads with 1,274 wins, followed by Roger Federer (1.242) and the Czech Ivan Lendl (1,068).
Nadal turned professional in 2001 and won his first ATP Tour match in 2002 when he defeated Paraguay's Ramon Delgado in the first round of the Mallorca Open.

Argentina football legend Diego Maradona underwent successful brain surgery for a subdural hematoma on Tuesday after he was admitted to a hospital a day earlier.
"I was able to evacuate the hematoma successfully, and Diego tolerated the surgery very well," Leopoldo Luque, Maradona's neurosurgeon and personal physician, told reporters outside the Olivos clinic in Buenos Aires province where dozens of fans were gathered.

Lewis Hamilton claimed his 93rd race victory despite falling from 2nd to 3rd position in the opening laps of the race. Daniel Ricciardo achieved his second podium with Renault, finishing 3rd behind Valtteri Bottas.

Valtteri Bottas beat Mercedes team-mate, Lewis Hamilton, to take the pole position for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. The Finn was 0.097 seconds quicker than Hamilton, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen starting in third.
The top five are complete with Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly taking a surprise fourth position followed by Renault's Daniel Ricciardo in fifth.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has resigned. The bureaucracy and the open war with Messi, the bad sports results and the economic situation of the club left Bartomeu on the wire. Still, it has finally been the motion of censure, with more than 16,000 signatures, that has precipitated the resignation of the president.
Bartolomeu resignation comes three days after Barca's 3-1 home defeat to Real Madrid, and just a day after he said: "that it had not occurred to him to resign."

Lewis Hamilton won the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao, broke the record for the most victories in the Formula 1 (now 92), opened a 77-point advantage over teammate Bottas in the championship, and moved ever closer to a seventh world title, which would match Schumacher's other surviving record.
Valtteri Botas finished in second, Max Verstappen in third, Charles Leclerc in fourth and Pierre Gasly in fifth.

The British Lewis Hamilton snatched the pole position for the Portuguese Grand Prix from team-mate Valtteri Bottas with a fast lap at the end of Q3.

After the qualifying, Hamilton said: "I can't tell you how hard that was today! I've just seen that Valtteri topped every session, and I've just been digging to find the time... I chose to do three laps to have a chance to beat his time."

Santos and striker Robinho announced on Friday the suspension of the contract between the club and the player, who had agreed his return on October 10.
The decision comes after pressure from advisers, sponsors and the disclosure by the Brazilian media of excerpts from the Italian court sentence that sentenced Robinho and a friend to nine years in prison for group sexual violence against a young woman of Albanian origin.
Former Brazilian International, Robinho also played for Real Madrid, Manchester City, Milan and, most recently, İstanbul Başakşehir.

The Portuguese soccer player for Juventus Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for Covid-19.

Rafael Nadal is the French Open 2020 champion after a 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Novak Djokovic. The Spanish celebrated his 13th Roland Garros title.
Nadal also equalised Roger Federer's record of 20 Grand Slam men's titles.

Lead by LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers are the NBA champions for 2019/2020 after a 106:93 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday, closing the series in 4-2. LeBron delivered a great performance, logging his first triple-double in the Finals with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists.
The Lakers tied Boston Celtics with NBA championships, while LeBron James celebrated his 4th NBA title, and being the NBA Finals MVP.

With another solid performance at Nürburgring, Hamilton overtook Bottas, who eventually retired with power issues. Mick Schumacher, himself currently a championship leader in F2, surprised Hamilton with the gift of one of his celebrated father's helmets after the race.
Verstappen took 2nd place and the fastest lap, however Ricciardo's 3rd place was even more celebrated in the paddock as it awarded Renault their first podium in years, which Ricciardo had vowed to achieve before his move to McLaren next season.
The Racing Point team also had reasons to celebrate as they rose to 3rd in the season standings behind Red Bull, following strong performances from drivers Perez and Hülkenberg, the latter having replaced Stroll at the last minute for this weekend's event.

Rafael Nadal is going for a record 13th French Open title after a 6-3 6-3 7-6 (7-0) victory against Diego Schwartzman in the semi-final. Nadal has only lost twice on Roland Garros in his career.
The Spanish will play top seed Novak Djokovic, that has beaten Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-2 5-7 4-6 6-1.
Sunday's match will be the 56th between the two players, the ninth on a Grand Slam final.

The Finnish Valtteri Bottas is on the pole position of the Eifel Grand Prix, to take place Sunday at the Nurburgring race track in Germany. The Mercedes Benz driver celebrated his 14th career pole.
Bottas teammate Lewis Hamilton to start in second, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen in third.
After the qualifying, Bottas stated "It's such a nice feeling when you get it on the last lap! It was tricky today with a short practice and getting the tyres spot on."
Nico Hulkenberg will replace Lance Stroll for this Grand Prix at the Nurburgring after the Canadian missed practice on Saturday morning after falling ill.

Iga Swiatek became the first Grand Slam singles champion from Poland, after a 6-4, 6-1 over Sofia Kenin on Roland Garros. Swiatek did not drop a set during the tournament,
The 19-year-old player is the youngest champion since 1992, and at 54 in the world, she is also the lowest-ranked woman to win the French Open.

The French Open women's final will be contested between the Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin and Polish teenager Iga Swiatek. The game will be played Saturday.
Swiatek needed only 70 minutes to beat Nadia Podoroska 6-2, 6-1 to reach her first major final, and to be the first Polish woman to reach a Roland Garros final since 1939.
The American Sofia Kenin overcame the two-time Roland Garros winner Petra Kvitova with 6-4, 7-5.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski was named Europe's best male footballer of 2020 on Thursday by the UEFA, European football's governing body.
The 2019/20 season was one of the greatest in Bayern's 120-year history, and no player contributed more to it than Lewandowski. The Poland striker scored in every game en route to the UEFA Champions League final in Lisbon, picking up 15 goals and six assists as well as the trophy he had coveted for so long. He also hit 34 goals in 31 Bundesliga matches and six in five German Cup games.

Honda, the engine partner for Red Bull and Scuderia AlphaTauri, announced Friday it has decided to conclude its participation in the Formula 1 at the end of the 2021 season.
Honda explained the move as a result of the transformation of the car industry away from internal combustion engines and its purse of "carbon neutrality by 2050".
In a press release on its site, Honda concluded with "Motorsports activities are in Honda's DNA, and therefore Honda will continue to be passionate about taking on challenges and striving to become No. 1 in all categories of racing in which Honda participates."

The Tennessee Titans vs Pittsburgh Steelers game has been postponed due to multiple Covid-19 cases. Multiple Titan players have been tested positive for Covid-19 and experience flu-like symptoms.
Titans coach Mike Vrabel has stated that "nobody's to blame. We're in a pandemic. This is a very unfortunate situation, but one that we're confident that we will be able to handle safely with the football team and the players' best interests in mind". The game will be rescheduled to a later point in the season.

A total of fourteen between team members and staff of Serie A side CFC Genoa have tested positive for Covid-19, the club announced in a statement on Monday.
According to Italian soccer newspaper 'Gazzetta dello Sport', eleven out of fourteen positive cases are players, while three are members of the staff.
In a statement posted on their website, the club wrote: "The club has activated all the procedures according to the protocol and informed the authorities. The club will provide updates as the situation evolves."

Miami Heat are in the NBA Finals, with the title of the East Conference after a 4:2 series against Boston Celtics.
The Heat will face Lakers, the winner of the West Conference, for the 2020 NBA title. The first game will be Wednesday, September 30.

Valtteri Botas won the Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix in Sochi. The Finish driver has now nine victories in the category.
Botas finished ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, with Lewis Hamilton in third.
In the post-race interview, Botas said: "Once I was in clean air I felt that the pace was pretty awesome and that I could control everything.

Los Angeles Lakers are in the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010, with the title of the West Conference after a 4:1 series against Denver Nuggets.
LeBron James was the man of game 5 with a 38-point triple-double.
The Lakers now wait for the winner of the East Conference, either Boston Celtics or Miami Heat. Miami Heat leads the series 3:2.
