Juventus have sacked Maurizio Sarri as manager after one season. The head coach signed a three-year contract last summer, after a year at Chelsea.
Sarri lead the "Vecchia Signora" to a ninth straight Serie A title, but the team was knocked out of the Champions League by Lyon at the last-16 stage, and lost the the Coppa Italia to Napoli.
The club released a statement thanking Sarri for "having written a new page in Juventus' history".

Barcelona and Bayern advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals. Both clubs head to Lisbon to play each other on August 14 at the Estádio da Luz.
Playing at the Camp Nou, Barcelona qualified with a 3:1 win over Napoli, goals by Lenglet, Messi and Luis Suárez. Lorenzo Insigne scored for Napoli.
In Munich, Bayern confirmed their favouritism by beating Chelsea 4:1. Robert Lewandowski scored twice and created goals for Perisic and Tolisso.

Manchester City and Lyon will face each other on the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. The game will be played on August 15 at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
In Manchester, City qualified with a 2:1 win against Real Madrid, with goals by Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.
In Turin, Juventus won the game 2:1, with two goals by Cristiano Ronaldo, but Lyon qualified on the aggregate result -- by having more away goals.

The line-up for the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals to be played on August 10 and 11 is complete.
On Monday, Manchester United will face Copenhagen in Cologne and Internazionale Milano and Bayer Leverkusen will play in Dusseldorf.
Tuesday will have Shakhtar Donetsk against Basel at Arena AufSchalke and Wolves versus Sevilla at MSV Arena.

Porto has beaten Benfica 2:1 to take the Portugal Cup title in a match played in Coimbra. Porto celebrated the "double", as it also won the Portuguese title for the 2019/20 season.
Both Porto goals were scored by the central defender Chancel Mbemba, with Carlos Vinicius scoring for Benfica.

Arsenal beat Chelsea 2:1 to win the FA Cup this Saturday at the Wembley stadium in London. The victory gave the Gunners, besides the silverware, a spot for the group stage of the Europa League 2020/21.
Aubameyang was the name of the game, scoring two goals -- one in each half -- and helped the Gunners to win the FA Cup for the 14th time.

For the fourth time in six years, PSG celebrated a domestic treble after beating Lyon on penalties to win the French League cup title. The game was played at the Stade de France and watched by about 5,000 supporters.
After the first 10 penalties were scored, PSG keeper Keylor Navas saved from Bertrand Traore before Pablo Sarabia scored the winning kick.
It was the final French League Cup competition, with the decision made last September to cancel the tournament after this season.

Swiss special prosecutor Stefan Keller opened a criminal case against FIFA president Gianni Infantino over meetings with former attorney general Michael Lauber. The prosecutors have found indications of criminal conduct related to the meetings between the two men.
Lauber offered his resignation after it was found that the prosecutor had tried to hide a meeting with the FIFA head while his office was investigating FIFA-related corruption.
Infantino released a statement insisting that meeting Lauber is "perfectly legitimate and it’s perfectly legal."
FIFA also said it would cooperate fully with the investigation.

Despite the 14-day quarantine rule imposed on travellers from Spain to the UK, the Champions League match between Manchester City and Real Madrid will be played on August 7 at the Etihad Stadium.
The British Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden announced an exemption for sports teams and film crews that will allow the game to take place in Manchester as planned.
The quarantine regulation was imposed by the UK following a dramatic increase in the virus in Spain.

Juventus 2:0 victory against Sampdoria guaranteed the ninth consecutive Serie A title for the Vecchia Signora. 2019-20 season title is the 36th for Juventus and the first for head coach Maurizio Sarri.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first goal of the match, with Bernardeschi scoring the second. Ronaldo also missed a penalty when the game was already 2:0 to Juventus.

PSG won its 13th French Cup after a 1:0 victory against Saint-Étienne Friday at Stade de France. The team from Paris won five out of the last six editions of the French Cup.
Neymar Jr. scored the only goal of the game, but Kylian Mbappe left the pitch in tears and later returned to the dugout on crutches after suffering a tackle during the first half.
PSG has now won Ligue 1 and the French Cup, but a possible quadruple is still on with the League Cup, to be played July 31, and Champions League, resuming on August 12.

France Football have announced that the Ballon d'Or award will not be handed out in 2020. The decision comes due to the complications caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, which put halted or cancelled the major soccer tournaments.
"For the first time since 1956, the Ballon d’Or will take a break. There will be no edition in 2020, because it turns out, after thoughtful consideration, that all the conditions are not met. We believe that such a singular year cannot -and should not- be treated as an ordinary one." stated France Football in a blog post.

After a 1:0 win over Kayserispor, Istanbul Basaksehir celebrated their first Turkish Super Lig title and the first significant honour in the club's short history. The club was founded in 1990 as an amateur side but only got prominence after they were taken over in 2014 by a group of businessmen.
Galatasaray and Fenerbahce will not play European competitions during next season. Besiktas secured a Europa League place.

With a 3:1 victory against Manchester United Sunday, Chelsea qualified to face Arsenal on August 1, in an all-London FA Cup final.

Arsenal beat reigning FA Cup champions Manchester City at Wembley with two goals by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The victory guaranteed Arsenal a place in the FA Cup final to face Chelsea or Manchester United on August 1.

After a 2:0 victory against Villareal, Real Madrid confirmed its 34th Spanish title at an empty Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.
Since LaLiga resumed, after the Covid-19 break, Real has won all 10 of its games to open up a seven-point lead over second-place Barcelona.

The IFAB Board of Directors has extended the option allowing up to five substitutions during matches to competitions scheduled to be completed by July 31, 2021, and to international tournaments scheduled in July/August 2021. The option was initially approved on May 8 as a direct response to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on soccer calendar and competitions.
FIFA stated, "The decision on whether to apply this temporary amendment remains at the discretion of each competition organizer."

Jack Charlton, a 1966 World Cup winner with England and former Republic of Ireland's national team, has died aged 85. The former defender had been diagnosed with lymphoma in the last year and also had dementia.
Gary Lineker said on Twitter: "Saddened to hear that Jack Charlton has passed away. World Cup winner with England, manager of probably the best ever Ireland side and a wonderfully infectious personality to boot. RIP Jack,".

Werder Bremen avoided relegation and secured themselves a spot in the 2020/21 Bundesliga season after a 2:2 draw against Heidenheim. Bremen defeated Heidenheim on away goals after a 0:0 result in the first leg.

With Robert Lewandowksi scoring twice in the second half, Bayern Munich added the German Cup silverware to their Bundesliga title after a 4:2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. The game was played Saturday at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
Munich now aims for a treble, with Hansi Flick's side focusing on the Champions League tournament, that will take place in Lisbon during August.
Bayern Munich now has 20 German Cup titles in their history.

Players of Botafogo joined the Black Lives Matter movement and 'took a knee' during their first match after the Covid-19 pandemic paused all soccer competitions in Brazil.
Before the kick-off, Botafogo protested against the Federação de Futebol do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FERJ), that resumed the Campeonato Carioca tournament meanwhile Brazil still deals with a growing number of Covid-19 cases.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will be held in Australia and New Zealand, with 32 teams. The decision was announced on Thursday after a vote taken by the FIFA Council during its meeting held via online conference.
The joint bid from Australia and New Zealand had 22 votes against 13 votes to the submission from Colombia.

Liverpool won the first Premier League title in club history and ended a 30-year wait for English football supremacy after Manchester City lost 2-1 at Chelsea. With the adverse result, Manchester City's two-year reign is over as there are seven games to be played and Liverpool has a 23 points lead.

UEFA announced yesterday several details for the remaining Champions League and Europa League matches. The interrupted rounds of 16 are scheduled to restart on August 5 at unconfirmed locations.
Afterwards, Champions League matches from the quarter-finals up to the final will be played between August 12-23 in Lisbon, while Europa League matches are to be played between August 10-24 at four German cities (Cologne, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen).
Finally, the Women's Champions League will wrap up in the Basque Country region of Spain between August 21-30.

After being suspended on March 9 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, soccer in Italy is back with the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final between Juventus and AC Milan.
Cristiano Ronaldo will lead Juventus against an AC Milan without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with a calf injury.

The Football Association suspended for one match the Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli over an old Snapchat post about coronavirus that resurfaced recently.
The video posted by Alli showed him in an airport lounge wearing a face mask before focusing on a man of Asian appearance, and then finally zooming in on a bottle of antiseptic handwash.
The midfielder also received a £50,000 fine and ordered to undertake an education course.
