Pelosi says portraits of former Confederate House speakers to be removed

Portraits of four former House of Representatives speakers who served the Confederacy will be removed from the U.S. Capitol, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday.

The former House speakers to have their portraits removed include Robert Hunter of Virginia, Howell Cobb of Georgia, James Orr of South Carolina and Charles Crisp of Georgia.

The removal will happen on Friday, the Juneteenth holiday marking the end of U.S. slavery.
