On August 18, a 53-old salesman suffered a heart attack and died while working at a Carrefour supermarket in Recife, Brazil. The body was covered with umbrellas and surrounded by boxes, beer crates, and makeshift sidings during four hours while the establishment continued to function.

The company released a statement saying it "changed the guidelines for rare situations like this - including the mandatory closing of the store -, to bring more sensitivity and respect when dealing with fatalities."
