Joe Biden hit by sexual assault allegation

Former Vice President Joe Biden faces new allegations of sexual assault. In an interview with podcast host Katie Halper, which aired on Wednesday, Tara Reade says Biden sexually assaulted her, pushing her against a wall and penetrating her with his fingers when she was working in his staff in 1993. When she pulled away, she says, he said he thought she "liked" him. Reade's allegation line up with allegations by several women who came forward in 2019 to say Biden had kissed or touched them in ways that made them uncomfortable. Biden’s campaign on Friday denied Reade’s allegation. “Women have a right to tell their story, and reporters have an obligation to rigorously vet those claims,” deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said in a statement. “We encourage them to do so, because these accusations are false.”

Washington Post researches: Sanders changed opinion on contested convention since 2016

The Democratic presidential nominee contender and senator Bernie Sanders said during the Las Vegas debate that he opposes a contested convention where superdelegates weight in their votes. This stands in contrast to his standpoint in 2016 when he was facing Hillary Clinton for the nomination. Back then he said, " The responsibility that superdelegates have is to decide what is best for this country and what is best for the Democratic Party". Even if it would mean to override a pledged delegate majority.

During debate: Only Bernie Sanders against the option of a contested convention

During the Democratic debate in Las Vegas, the candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination were asked if the "person with the most delegates at the end of the primary season" should be the nominee for the Democratic party, even if the candidate is short of a majority of delegates. All candidates except Bernie Sanders answered the question with no. This is important in particular because if no candidate has a majority on the first ballot, 500 superdelegates that aren't appointed through primaries can vote in the second one.
