Moscow goes into lockdown

Mayor Sergei Sobyanin declared the 13 million residents of the Russian Capital, Moscow, are to stay home, exceptions made for medical emergencies and run to nearby shops.
The city will enforce this rule using a system of special passes and electronic surveillance -- cameras with facial recognition and cell phone location data.

Juventus players agree to take pay reduction of €90 million

Juventus on Saturday announced that they reached an agreement to cut their players’ and coach Maurizio Sarri’s monthly payments of March, April, May, and June 2020.
This agreement that will save the club €90 million was brokered by the defender Giorgio Chiellini with Cristiano Ronaldo agreeing to sacrifice €3.8 million.
The club stated "Should the current season's matches be rescheduled; the Club will negotiate in good faith with the players and the coach conditional increases of compensation according to the actual resumption and finalization of official competitions,"

Hungary suspends parliament and enables Orban to rule by decree

In order to fight the coronavirus, the Hungarian parliament has suspended itself indefinitely and provided the prime minister Viktor Orban with the power to rule by decree. While this rule is in place no elections or referendums can be held, reporting that is judged to be false can be punished other measures can be taken without the need to go through the regular democratic processes. The legislation reached the necessary majority of two-thirds with 138 votes in favor and 53 votes against.

Engineers develop develop breathing aid that delivers oxygen without ventilator

The Continuous Positive Airway Pressure device has been developed together by engineers from Mercedes Formula One and the University College London as well as clinicians from the college. The approval for using it has already given by the respective authority the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and the first devices have been delivered to the college and three other hospitals inside London. If the trials are successful Mercedes-AMG-HPP is prepared to produce up to 1,000 devices per day from next week on.

Rudy Giuliani tweets Covid-19 misinformation, gets temporarily suspended

Over the weekend, Rudy Giuliani's Twitter account got temporarily suspended after tweeting misinformation regarding Covid-19. The tweet, a quote by conspiracy theorist and conservative activist Charlie Kirk, stated "Hydroxychloroquine has been shown to have a 100% effective rate treating COVID-19 yet Democrat Gretchen Whitmer is threatening doctors who prescribe it. If Trump is for something - Democrats are against it. They're okay with people dying if it means opposing Trump." The drug hydroxychloroquine has been used to prevent and treat malaria but hasn't been proven to be a safe or effective cure for the coronavirus.

Thailand's king isolates in German four-star hotel

King Maha Vajiralongkorn, the King of Thailand also known as Rama X, has booked the entire Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl. The hotel got a special permit to host the king and a part of his entourage because they form a "single, homogenous group of people with no fluctuation", but 119 members of said entourage have been sent back to Thailand due to suspicions of the coronavirus. The group includes 20 concubines and numerous servants, but it is unclear if the king's four wives are staying at the hotel as well.

Spanish Princess Maria Teresa has died from Covid-19

On March 26, Maria Teresa of Bourbon-Parma (86), cousin of King Felipe IV, has died after being infected with the novel Coronavirus. She died in Paris and a funeral was held in Madrid on Friday. She is the first royal to die from Covid-19.

PlayStation to provide full pay to employees, regardless of ability to perform remote work

Reporter Patrick Klepek announced on Twitter that he obtained a memo stating that all PlayStation employees are set to work from home until April 30. Employees will be paid "regardless of ability to perform remote work due to job function or responsibilities". Non-profit Internet Archive provides free access to 1.4 million books

Announcing a "National Emergency Library" the non-profit organization Internat Archive makes 1.4 million books online for free. The organization stated that the measure was taken in order to provide "a global community of displaced learners" with access to learning materials. The collection mainly contains digitalized books that don't have an ebook version available.

Portugal government announces to treat migrants as residents during Covid-19 pandemic

In order to allow migrants and asylum seekers, that are currently living in Portugal, access to the public services of the country during the coronavirus pandemic, the government has announced to treat them as residents. Being treated as such they can use social security services such as healthcare or welfare, but also open bank accounts, close rental contracts and work. The only requirement is an ongoing request for residency.

YouTuber calls gamers to help build the entire Earth in Minecraft on a 1:1 scale

The YouTuber PippenFTS aims to recreate the entire Earth in the online game Minecraft in life-size. With the help of two mods, called "Cubic Chunks" and "Terra 1-to-1" respectively removing the size limits of the Minecraft worlds and converting Google Maps earth data into Minecraft maps, the YouTuber has re-created the earth in a Minecraft world. In his proposed second steps he calls for players to get together and hand-build all human-made structures, which were not added by the mods itself. The players organize in a Discord which already has over 40,000 members and the video with the call for participation broke the 5 million views.

Joe Biden hit by sexual assault allegation

Former Vice President Joe Biden faces new allegations of sexual assault. In an interview with podcast host Katie Halper, which aired on Wednesday, Tara Reade says Biden sexually assaulted her, pushing her against a wall and penetrating her with his fingers when she was working in his staff in 1993. When she pulled away, she says, he said he thought she "liked" him. Reade's allegation line up with allegations by several women who came forward in 2019 to say Biden had kissed or touched them in ways that made them uncomfortable. Biden’s campaign on Friday denied Reade’s allegation. “Women have a right to tell their story, and reporters have an obligation to rigorously vet those claims,” deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said in a statement. “We encourage them to do so, because these accusations are false.”

The Defense Production Act gives the president powers to direct domestic industrial production to provide essential materials and goods needed in a national security crisis. Previously Trump has been reluctant to use the act to force businesses to contribute to the coronavirus fight. "But our fight against the virus is too urgent to allow the give-and-take of the contracting process to continue to run its normal course", the President said. General Motors said it could build 10,000 ventilators per month starting in April.

The Malaysian company Karex Bhd had stopped the production of condoms following a lockdown by the government due to the coronavirus. This has led to a missing production of around 100 million condoms, with the company normally producing 20 percent of all condoms globally. Now deemed a critical industry the government has permitted to start the production again with 50% of the workforce.

China closes borders to prevent now Covid-19 from travellers
